9 Tips & Tricks for Surviving Winter Driving

Winter driving can be a pain so there is no such thing as being overly prepared. Here are our favourite tips & tricks for surviving winter driving. Some of these will amaze you!

1. When You Are Stuck in Snow

Kitty litter is a useful item to keep in your trunk. If you find yourself stuck, throw kitty litter under the tires to gain traction. If that doesn’t work, try using your floor mats.

2. Easy Snow Removal

When possible, park facing East so that the sun will melt the snow and ice as it rises.

3. Prevent Ice from Forming on Mirrors

When you’re parked, cover your side mirrors with plastic bags and secure them with rubber bands to prevent ice from forming. This is a great time saver!

4. Protect Your Windshield Wipers

Overnight, raise the wipers and cover them with socks to prevent them from collecting ice and freezing to your window.

5. Improve Visibility

For extra brightness, clean your headlights with toothpaste. This will improve your visibility allowing others to see you and you to see what’s in front of you.

6. Ice Scraper Replacements

If you find yourself in a situation without an ice scraper, try using a credit card or a kitchen spatula (non-metal).

7. Fog-Proof Your Windows

Use shaving cream to help prevent your windows from fogging.

8. Prevent Your Doors From Sticking

Try using cooking spray on the rubber seals of your doors to prevent them from sticking.

9. Be Prepared for Anything

Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle in the event that you find yourself stranded.
