Summer is upon us and the road trip has long been a classic vacation. If you have been considering hitting the open road, it is extremely important to be prepared. A great place to start is making sure your vehicle is road trip ready.

Let’s face it, who doesn’t want to recreate their own version of the comedy, National Lampoon’s Summer Vacation? We can just picture it now, cruising down the highway in that that 1979 Ford LTD with the faux-wood side panels. In fact, a couple of years ago that beauty was for sale. If you have no idea what we are talking about, take our advice and watch that movie on your road trip!

Before setting out on your adventure, be sure to consider the following road trip tips:

A thorough clean, inside and out

You will be spending quite a bit of time travelling between destinations, so it is important that you feel clean and comfortable in your car. Also, a good clean will ensure that you can see clearly out your window for those beautiful landscapes and site-seeing!

Are all your documents up to date?

In the event that you may be pulled over, your documents must be in order to avoid spoiling your trip. Be sure to check your license plate sticker, insurance, driver’s license, passport (if need be) and CAA. Also, if for any reason yourself or your passengers have any health issues, be sure you have everything you need in case of an emergency.

Air Conditioning is Key

Your trip can turn miserable if the majority of your time is spent sweating in a sweltering hot car. Test this out and be positive you can turn on some cool refreshing air so that everyone is comfortable.

Have your car checked by a pro

It’s probably a good idea just to take your car in for a general check. At least this way you can 100% make sure that any essential fluids are topped up (oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze/coolant, radiator coolant, brake fluid, windshield washer fluid and power steering fluid). They will also check if anything needs to be replaced. We would recommend taking your car in at least 2 weeks before you leave. Lastly, ensure lights, brakes and signals are in working order.

Your Tires

Needless to say your tires will be doing a lot of work on a road trip. If you haven’t thought of this already, check your tires. Oh! Don’t forget the spare either.
