What’s New in the 2018 Ford FlexApr 10th, 2020
The 2018 Ford Flex is on point – inside and out. Take a walk through some of the features of the 2018 Ford Flex.
Available Adaptive Cruise Control
Available radar enabled adaptive cruise control lets you choose one of four pre-set gaps between your Flex and the vehicle in front of you. Select your distance setting and radar will help you maintain it. Get too close, and the system slows Flex down to the distance you’ve set. When the space widens, Flex returns to its pre-set speed. And it does all this while sensing up to 450 feet down the road.
Inflatable Safety Belts
The belts are the world’s first production inflatable safety belts for automotive application. In the blink of an eye, vehicle sensors will determine the severity of a front or side crash. If required, an airbag in each rear safety belt will inflate with compressed gas that flows through a specially designed buckle. The belts inflate at a slower rate than a traditional air bag and help control head and neck motion for second row out-board seat occupants, and are designed to enhance safety for passengers of all ages. The inflatable belts help spread crash force protection over more of the occupant’s torso than a traditional belt, which helps reduce the risk of injury and provides support to the head and neck.
BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert
Guided by unique driver-centric technology, flex is designed with sophisticated, innovative features that can almost anticipate your needs. Available cross-traffic alert uses advanced radar sensors to audibly and visually alert you to vehicles approaching from up to 45 feet away while you’re slowly backing up. When a vehicle is detected in your blind-zone, the available blind spot information system can let you know. An indicator light provides a warning in the outside mirror corresponding to the side from which the other vehicle is approaching.
3.5 EcoBoost Engine
The available 365 horsepower 3.5 litre EcoBoost V6 engine in the Ford Flex delivers V8-like power with the fuel economy of a V6. The EcoBoost engine employs two small turbo chargers which spool up to their operating speed quickly, virtually eliminating turbo lag. The turbo chargers are matched with direct fuel injection: a combination that also produces impressive torque output. The direct injection system in turn delivers a fine mist of fuel directly into each cylinder, exactly when and where it’s needed to enhance performance and emissions.
You’re not the kind who goes along with the crowd because you’re expected to. That’s not your style. So why should the vehicle you drive look like it was cast from a common mould? In a world where style is often a copied commodity, the Flex stands out. And stands out, you might say, in a big way.
Distinctive lines all around create a shape that is clean and simple, yet strong and bold, upright and upscale. It’s a shape that says volumes about what the Flex does extremely well: carries 7 people in an abundantly spacious and comfortable cabin, and is flexible when the need to carry your cargo takes priority. This is innovative design, expressive and contemporary, different from every angle and point of view, with the sculpted front end and Flex proudly displayed on the hood.
Parallel parking can be quick in Ford Flex – it’s easy too. Simply push the active park assist button. This available feature uses ultrasonic base sensors to help you locate a parking spot. Simply follow a few directions displayed on the message centre. With just a little input from you, the system can park your flex. Take your hands off the steering wheel while maintaining control of the accelerator, brake, and gear shifter. Active park assist is available on Ford Flex.
Comfort and Versatility
Flex is designed for comfort even before you are seated. That’s because Flex has a low step in height that makes entering easy. You’ll immediately notice how open and spacious Flex is. Especially with the abundance of natural light coming through the available multi-panel vista roof with its 4 skylights covering all three rows. 7 passenger comfort begins with first row seating in cloth or optional leather trim, with heating or cooling available to suit the season.
The second row offers plenty of legroom to stretch out. The 60/40 split seat accommodates one, two, or three people depending on your cargo carrying needs. Or choose the more upscale 40/40 bucket seat option, which provides easy access to the third row seats. A centre console is available with the second row buckets, and even a refrigerated console option for storing and chilling drinks.
The spacious 50/50 third row seats can come with a handy button activated power fold option, so it can be converted to a rear facing tail gate seat. Great for a sporting event or picnic. Flex is comfortable and versatile too. Use the space behind the third row seat to store a variety of travel items. Lowering the third row seat backs gives you a flat load floor for extra cargo or room for the family dog. Or fold down all the rear seat backs for a total capacity of 83.2 cubic feet.
Flex has informative instrumentation and offers convenient features, like the standard heated steering wheel. Access settings and information with the two cluster screens controlled by five-way buttons on the steering wheel. The eight-inch centre touch screen lets you customize systems like available navigation and climate control, your mobile phone, and music library. Stay connected with life on the road as never before. Comfort, versatility, technology.
